Used cameras are excellent value for hobbyists and pros — when you verify shutter count, sensor condition, mount compatibility, and accessory completeness.

Body checks

• Shutter count — high counts on DSLRs matter; mirrorless shutters last longer but still age.
• Sensor dust / scratches — ask for test shots at wide aperture.
• Ports and hinges — HDMI, USB-C, and battery doors are failure points.
• Battery grip / doors — missing doors are cheap fixes; cracked grips are annoying.

Lenses

• Inspect glass for scratches, haze, fungus (especially vintage glass).
• Confirm mount (EF, RF, E, Z, L-mount) matches your body.
• Focus ring and aperture ring should move smoothly.

"For parts" vs working

eBay lists many "for parts" bodies at tempting prices. Unless you repair gear, skip them.
